Basket

Why are Easter egg hunts carried in baskets?

Eggs (eggs with candy, hard-boiled, or dyed eggs) are always collected through baskets in Easter egg hunts. The practice plays into Easter and its symbols of new life and prosperity. The basket is a receptacle for the “fruits of the hunt,” thus, being practical and symbolic. Some rituals even equate the basket with spring, bringing to mind a gathering of flowers or produce, which is also linked to Easter’s period of resurrection and renewal.
