The tradition goes back to the 16th century, when the villagers donned fresh linens and hats for Easter, marking the close of Lent and the start of the festive season. Eventually, the Easter bonnet became associated with femininity and celebration, often adorned with flowers, ribbons and pastel shades in an attempt to express the idea of renewal and renewal. Easter bonnets continue to be worn in parades and celebrations to this day, especially in the US, for example, at the annual New York City Easter Parade.
