Coloring Eggs

For what reason are people coloring Easter eggs?

Easter egg coloring is a very old tradition of bringing life and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The egg represents fertility and rebirth for hundreds of years, and to dye and decorate eggs for Easter evokes the holiday’s joy and renewal. It is thought to have been first practiced in the early Christian church when eggs were often forbidden during Lent, but then eaten on Easter Sunday to mark the completion of fasting. Gradually, coloring and decorating eggs became a family tradition (especially for children) at Easter. This bright colouring and the elaborate patterns on the eggs is linked to the optimism and happiness of Easter, and it still carries on to contemporary Easter events such as Easter egg hunts.
