Cross

Why is the cross a significant Christian symbol?

This is the symbol of Christianity: the cross represents Jesus Christ’s crucifixion, an event at the centre of Christianity. And for Christians, Jesus died on the cross to redeem the world from human sin and to promise us salvation and eternal life if we put our faith in Him. The cross is the sign of sacrifice and redemption, for the death of Jesus represents love for humanity’s sake. After He was crucified, Christians think that Jesus rose from the dead, which reinforces the power of the cross as a symbol of victory over sin and death. The cross is hung in churches, adorned as jewellery, and used in religious artwork to remind us of Jesus’ death and the redemption that follows from him.
