Why do people put Easter decorations on eggs?
Easter egg painting is an ancient practice of celebrating life and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Eggs are a very old reminder of birth and fertility, and at Easter the egg symbolizes new life. Decorating eggs goes back at least as far as the early Christians, who dyed eggs red to symbolize Christ’s blood. Over time, eggs became increasingly more decorated with different designs, colours and techniques, a highly entertaining creative activity for families, especially for children. Decorated eggs are part of Easter celebrations now, with Easter egg hunts and as Easter decorations. Not only do the eggs display the hope and glory of Easter with their colours and details, they also gather individuals together for a meaningful, tactile activity at the holiday.
