What is the purpose of dying Easter eggs?

Easter eggs dyed in different colors represents resurrection and life. Eggs have a long tradition of being fertility and rebirth symbols, and coloring them further cements this belief by representing Easter’s happiness and promise. The use of colouring dyes to colour eggs is rooted in themes of spring, renewal and nature. Though traditionally coloured red to symbolize the blood of Christ, many different types of colors and designs are now available to decorate Easter eggs and it is typically a very creative project for families. These colorful eggs are usually thrown in baskets, used in Easter egg hunts, or given as gifts to each other, maintaining an old favorite ritual that gathers people around the Easter holiday.
