Easter

What does Easter mean in Christianity?

Easter is the most important Christian holiday, marking the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Christians teach that, having been crucified and buried, Jesus arose on the third day of his death, granting the prophecy of the Messiah and saving everyone who trusted him. Easter signifies the victory over sin and death, and for Christians it represents the promise of eternal life. The holiday marks the conclusion of the Passion of Jesus, his suffering, death and resurrection, and it is preceded by the fasting and prayer period of Lent. Easter is marked with a mass, prayers and celebrations, which typically involve hymns and sharing of bread. Easter is celebrated on the Sunday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox each year. It is a period of newness, renewal, optimism, and new beginnings.
