What is Holy Saturday, and when does it take place?
Holy Saturday is the Saturday before Easter Sunday and the last day of Christian Holy Week. It is the day Jesus’ body was in the tomb after His crucifixion, to be waited upon and pondered. It’s a day of silence, waiting, and getting ready for the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. It isn’t a day of fasting, but the Christians generally notice the silence and respect for what Jesus was about to do, for the loss of his disciples and for the silence prior to his resurrection. The day is preceded by the Easter Vigil, held after sunset on Holy Saturday in some Christian churches. It will include the lighting of the Paschal candle, readings, baptisms and the re-creation of Christ, to get the believers out of their mourning and into joy before the Easter glory comes on Easter morning.
