What is Holy Week, and why is it so special in Christianity?
Holy Week is the period before Easter, it starts with Palm Sunday and ends with Easter Sunday. It is the busiest week of the Christian liturgical year, the last days of Jesus Christ’s life, death and resurrection. Every day of Holy Week is special and holy:
Palm Sunday is when Jesus comes triumphant to Jerusalem.
It is on Maundy Thursday that the Last Supper and Holy Communion take place.
Good Friday celebrates Jesus’ crucifixion.
Holy Saturday is a Sunday before Easter to reflect.
Holy Week is when Christians make time to think afresh about the main events of their faith, Jesus’ death and resurrection. It is celebrated with prayer, fasting and worship to get Christians psyched for Easter Sunday.
