New Clothes

Why are we dressed in new clothes on Easter Sunday?

On Easter Sunday, new clothes are a very ancient ritual, representing rebirth, new beginnings and celebrating Christ’s resurrection. Easter is the festival of resurrection, and by getting new clothes, one conveys a new beginning and new religion.

In many cultures, this too had a history as Easter was a day where people would go all out to celebrate. New clothes signify the hope and happiness of Easter and the salvation and resurrection of Christ.

The tradition is particularly popular in Christian households, where Easter Sunday worship is a ritual. Some use it to mark the occasion and express a sense of gratitude and joy for Jesus’ resurrection. The practice also makes Easter so happy and joyful.
