Palm Sunday

What is Palm Sunday and why is it important?

Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter, commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entrance into Jerusalem in the Gospels. It is the first day of Holy Week, prior to Easter Sunday.

On Palm Sunday, Jesus arrived in Jerusalem on a donkey, and the people put down their palm branches and waved them at Him. This practice represented their acknowledgment of Jesus as Messiah and their expectation of His deliverance. Christian Palm branches symbolise victory and tranquility, and they are used at the services on Palm Sunday.

Palm Sunday is important because it prepares the way for Holy Week, with Jesus’ crucifixion, death and resurrection. It’s also a day of worship and prayer, as believers remember Jesus as Lord and Savior, and get ready for Good Friday and Easter.
