Sunrise Service

What Is An Easter Sunday Sunrise Service?

A Sunrise Service is a free-standing church service that is performed early in the morning on Easter Sunday to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is also celebrated in the morning, perhaps just before sunrise, as the sun comes up, a sign of the light that Christ came into the world after his resurrection.

This is a tradition of many Christian communities and a time of contemplation, prayer and the joy of birth. The pre-dawn light and outdoor location make visible the breathtaking scene of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. The service normally consists of hymns, bible readings and a sermon on the promise and renewal of Easter.

Almost all Sunrise Services are held in gardens, hills or parks that make it more enjoyable to watch the sun rise and celebrate spring. It is a highly symbolic and emotional start to Christians’ Easter, which is the main event of the Christian world.
