White Lily

Why the white lily for Easter?

The white lily or “Easter Lily” represents purity, hope and resurrection, which also helps make the flower synonymous with Easter.

The white lily symbolises, in Christian faith, the virgin Mary’s purity and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Its trumpet-shaped flowers are believed to represent the rapture and salvation of eternal life as is Easter.

Because its peak bloom time coincides with Easter, the flower has even more meaning. White lilies are often put up in churches and houses at Easter to give a sense of holiness and worship.

Folklore also links the white lily to the biblical narratives, including being in the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed before His cross. The giving or adorning of white lilies today is a thoughtful way to celebrate the spiritual significance of Easter and the promises of renewal and creation.
